Tim McGraw Wins Lawsuit Against Curb Records

November 30, 2011 Category :Celebrity News 0

A judge has ruled in favor of Country singer Tim McGraw today in his legal battle with Curb Records, McGraw is now free to record new music and is also free to sign with another record label. McGraw said after the ruling earlier today in Nashville that he is “just very happy” with the outcome. The court proceedings with Curb Records will continue in July, but that will only be to determine if there was a breech in McGraw’s contract, and if damages are owed as a result of the dispute.

Tim signed with Curb 21 years ago but over the last year Tim has wanted to release new music, but he was tied down by their five album deal. The record label originally sued Tim, saying that he breached his 1997 contract by releasing an album too soon and sought to prevent Tim from recording or signing with another label until he fulfilled his obligation for what Curb considered a fifth album. McGraw filed a counter suit against Curb Records seeking advance payment and recording fund reimbursement, unspecified damages, and a jury trial. The counter suit also asked that McGraw’s “Emotional Traffic” record be deemed McGraw’s last album due the label and for McGraw to be “free to begin recording for himself or any other party as of July 23, 2011.” The status of “Emotional Traffic,” the latest McGraw album delivered to Curb is unclear.
